Well, actually it was in the early hours of Monday morning. That’s when a Greensboro man fell asleep behind the wheel of his pickup and crashed into the statue that formerly adorned the center of the roundabout in downtown Reidsville, NC.
The soldier lost his head, among other parts. The pickup apparently didn’t fare much better. Fortunately it’s drowsy driver was uninjured.
The prognosis for the hapless reb soldier is, well, guarded. Some Reidsville citizens find the statue divisive and argue the soldier should be laid to rest. Others say he represents history and should be rehabbed.
