A thick, chilly fog permeated downtown Greensboro, North Carolina this morning, December 17, 2010, making it difficult to see far down the slick city streets.
Visibility in Guilford County during the morning commute was less than a quarter mile according to Meteorologist Ed Matthews in an article from digtriad.com
Nasty driving conditions could have contributed to the automobile accident in which a vehicle overturned on Wendover Avenue near Benjamin Parkway around 6:00 a.m.
“Black ice” describes a phenomenon that occurs when a thin sheet of transparent ice glazes the pavement. Black ice can appear to be a puddle or is imperceptible entirely.
Authorities advise that drivers devote extra time to their typical commute under such pernicious conditions.
It’s also imperative that drivers don’t follow too close to the cars ahead of them. Simply staying far back enough can save you and others from car crashes that cause expensive property damage, debilitating personal injury and even death.
