According to Greensboro police, Rodney Lamont Huntley was travelling in the wrong direction down East Market Street when he struck the vehicle of Melissa Ann Mauney, who was travelling west. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on February 5, 2010 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Reportedly, Mr. Huntley was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol when he hit Ms. Mauney head-on. According to the accident report, she sustained disabling injuries as a result.

Mr. Huntley has been charged with DWI. Readers might be more surprised to know that the passenger who was with Mr. Huntley that night, Mr. Danny Cleo Cummings, was charged with aiding and abetting DWI.

That’s right; people who help their friends or family drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol can also be held accountable for any property damage, injury or death that might result.

The criminal and civil charges that can be brought against someone for aiding and abetting DWI are easy to avoid. Plan on assigning a designated driver or call a cab in order to avoid liability, and never buy alcohol for someone you know will be driving.
