A case of extreme road rage put Mark Walker in the hospital on April 20, 2010. I blogged about the incident back in April, and I’m happy to hear that Mr. Walker is recovering, although the process has been slow and surely painful. He’s been recovering from home for five weeks now, but he said he still thinks about the accident, and “it just sends shivers through me.”

The events that led to Mr. Walker’s hospitalization took place in a parking lot. Words were exchanged between him and Jerry Black of Lexington, North Carolina over a parking space. Mr. Walker was literally attempting to walk away from the situation when Mr. Black slammed his pickup truck into Mr. Walker, trapping him between the two vehicles.

Following the assault, Mr. Walker was rushed to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Doctors there induced a coma and over the following weeks, Mr. Walker endured nine operations. He said that doctors “removed a section of my large intestine.” He described his other injuries, including, “lacerations to my small intestine, broken ribs, a collapsed lung.”

Now, though Mr. Black has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and reckless driving, Mr. Walker is most concerned with his own recovery. According to an article from myfox8.com, he said he worries “about myself and my family and getting better so I can go back to work,” not what kind of punishment Mr. Black deserves.
