Brandie Lyons is the 21-year-old, single mother of two. She is training to be a firefighter. That’s enough to make her a hero in my book.

But Brandie Lyons isn’t your average strongwoman. She just spent a month at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina recovering from a serious head-on collision and plans on completing her firefighter’s training in October, on schedule.

As I posted in a previous blog, Brandie was driving on Highway 311 in Sophia, North Carolina on June 1st when she was in a head-on collision that could have ended her life.

“I have had to have seven staples on my head and I have to bruises on my brain,” she said in an article from myfox8.com.

But intense physical therapy sessions and many more months of rehabilitation ahead have not stopped Brandie in her pursuit of her dream: to help people by fighting fires.

“Once a firefighter, always a firefighter,” said Captain Charles Cardwell of the Guil-Rand Fire Department.

Clearly, Brandie is capable of fighting whatever comes her way. Her strength and determination will help her go far in accomplishing her dream of serving the public.

Brandie Lyons is truly an inspiration for those she plans to serve here in the Piedmont Triad Community. I am happy to hear she’s home and recovering well!

Donations can be made toward the Brandie Lyons Relief Fund at Community One Bank at 10108 South Main Street, Archdale, NC 27263 or at the Guil-Rand Fire Department at 10506 South Main Street, also in Archdale, NC.
