Several news media outlets are reporting that a dog was trapped in a car in 90-degree heat in eastern Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, such a sad situation is not an unusual occurrence despite the dangers of doing so on a summer day. But this story doesn’t end tragically or stop here.

This smart puppy—Max, a chocolate Labrador—saved himself! He had enough wits to honk the car horn persistently for over an hour until he was rescued.

Clearly, not all dogs are so smart. This one is lucky he is though, because apparently his human owner was dumb enough to leave him trapped inside an automobile during the dog days of summer!

Max’s owner did not act out of malice. She was distracted by shopping and forgot her “best friend” was still inside the car. She gave him cold water immediately upon realizing her error, and fortunately, the dog only suffered minor heat exhaustion.

Hopefully, Max taught his owner a lesson about safety today!
