Paula Grant Woolard, 32, died in Kinston on the morning of January 11, 2011 when her Toyota Tacoma pickup truck hit black ice on Paul’s Path Road, left the road to the right, and struck a tree.

Paula was driving her daughter to a doctor’s appointment at the time of the fatal crash. Her truck impacted a tree on the driver’s side door. She died instantly, but her 2-year-old daughter survived without serious injury.

Paula was the mother of three children and the wife of a local officer.

Motorists are urged to remain vigilant following recent winter precipitation that fell across much of North Carolina earlier this week. Temperatures have remained cold with highs not much warmer than freezing in many areas.

Roads are especially treacherous at night, when any melted snow and ice refreezes shortly after dark. Drivers should also be careful in the morning because temperatures rise slowly and shaded surfaces on the road pose a particular threat.
