An 11-year-old Lexington, North Carolina, girl who was struck by a car on Highway 150 on Sept. 7, 2010, has died.

According to the Highway Patrol, Emily Nicole Locklear was crossing N.C. 150 just after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the entrance to Whispering Pines Mobile Home Park where she lived. Witnesses said she was apparently going to check the mailbox.

Emily was struck by a 2002 Acura being driven southbound by 19-year-old Chrystal Michelle Luck, news reports said. She was taken to Brenner Children’s Hospital and was placed on life support.

The mobile home park is 5.6 miles northwest of Lexington. Emily was a student at Northwest Elementary School.

The Highway Patrol said Luck failed to remain at the scene and charges are pending against her, news reports said. Trooper Brad Suddeth is investigating the accident.
