TIMCO Employee Falls to Death in Greensboro, North Carolina

Comments Off

In 2008, there were 161 fatal occupational injuries in North Carolina. Twenty-two of these deaths resulted from a fall. Though the data has not been collected or published for the present year, the Piedmont Triad community already laments one such unfortunate fatality in 2010.

Just following my recent blog post about the hazards of falling objects injuring construction workers and do-it-yourselfers alike, news-record.com reports that an employee of TIMCO Aviation Services in Greensboro, North Carolina was fatally injured while on-the-job.

On May 28th, 2010 the employee was working on a plane from atop a scaffold outside of a hangar when the incident occurred. He fell two stories to his untimely death.

Lt. H.D. Burroughs from the sheriff’s department says that the “industrial accident” does not appear to have involved any foul play and that the Occupational Safety and Health Division (OHSA) of the NC Department of Labor will investigate whether or not the victim was wearing safety equipment at the time of his fall.

In a statement quoted in a digtriad.com article, TIMCO said, “The employee has been with the company for 16 years and was an honored veteran of Operation Desert Storm…Details about the incident and about the employee are being withheld out of respect for the family and until the investigation is complete.”

Clearly, the loyal employee will be missed by many of his coworkers in addition to his family and friends. The community regrets that the tragic incident occurred.
