Think Bedbugs Are Just a Myth?

Comments Off

Reports of bedbugs have been crawling upward over the past decade.

The critters were believed to have been eradicated in the United States during the early 1940s thanks to the controversial insecticide, DDT.

The cessation of the use of DDT as a broad spectrum pesticide combined with increased international travel have contributed to a resurgence of bedbugs in hotel chains, apartment buildings and homes across North America, according to an article on about.com.

One of our clients discovered the truth about bedbugs during a recent business trip. He stayed overnight at a corporate hotel in Texas. The room seemed clean, but when he woke up the next morning, he was overcome by itchiness. It was then that he realized he had spent the night with bedbugs, which often strike just before dawn with imperceptible little bites. Our unfortunate client was covered in hundreds of tiny red marks.

When our client addressed the Assistant General Manager of the hotel, management admitted that EcoLab was working on the problem. Clearly, the hotel management was aware of the pesky insects, but failed to alert our client and permitted him to stay in the infested room.

Since the bugs can easily travel with their human hosts, our client was forced to purchase new luggage. He also required medical treatment.

If you’re concerned about bedbugs hopping under the sheets with you on your next overnight away from home or if you’re moving into a new residence, you might want to click this link to view a registry of reported bedbug infestations.
