What should have been a joyful occasion—the delivery of an infant—for the family of Crystal M. Grimes, 30, turned into a tragic event on March 27, 2010. The child was delivered at High Point Regional Hospital following a scooter accident that ultimately resulted in the deaths of both the baby and the mother.

Crystal M. Grimes was 25 weeks pregnant when she was in a scooter accident in High Point, North Carolina that caused her death. Though her baby was born alive at High Point Regional Hospital, injuries sustained as a result of the wreck caused the child’s death as well.

Jerry Lee Phillips, 57, of High Point was driving the scooter that crashed and caused the unfortunate deaths of Crystal and her infant. He was charged with driving while impaired, according to an article on digtriad.com.
