Egerton Law investigating Audi gasoline emissions violations

Comments Off

In November 2016 international media began reporting that Audi gasoline engines were rigged with defeat devices to cheat emissions tests while the vehicles spewed carbon dioxide at levels in violation of US standards.

emissions defeat devices.

German newspaper Bild am Sonntag is cited as the first outlet to expose that several of Audi’s gasoline-powered vehicles are equipped with software designed to alter emissions levels when the cars are running under test conditions.

Similar to the widely known Volkswagen (VW) diesel scandal, the software is reported to control emissions levels to comply with regulations while the steering wheel remains within a certain turning radius. Under normal driving conditions, when the steering wheel is being turned, those controls relax and higher levels of pollutants are emitted.

Egerton Law represents many individuals who opted out of the VW Diesel Class Action and chose instead to pursue their claims in state court. Read more about the VW diesel cases here.

Sources cite another German newspaper, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, which published a statement from VW confirming that “[a]daptive shift programs can lead to incorrect and non-reproducible results.” Public statements from Audi, VW, and US regulators have not been issued.

Affected vehicles reportedly include the A6, A8, Q5 and Q7 models from 2013 to 2015; this list may be expanded as the investigation continues.

At this time several lawsuits across the country have been filed to bring a class action on behalf of affected Audi gasoline vehicle owners. However, Egerton Law believes that individual owners will receive more adequate compensation by seeking resolution in state court.
