Middle School Pedestrian Hit by Car

Comments Off

A young girl was struck by a car in Eden, North Carolina on April 4, 2010.

The student was crossing the street near Holmes Middle School on her way to soccer practice when the accident occurred. The impact forced her partially under a parked car on Moore Street.

The seriousness of her condition has not yet been reported, but digtriad.com states that she was taken to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

The majority of pedestrian crashes in school zones occur during the afternoon, as was the case in this accident. Crashes of this type are also most common among middle school children, perhaps because they are not considered as vulnerable as younger children, but are still unpracticed at paying attention to safety hazards. According to one study, in all there are approximately 33 pedestrian crashes during the school commute in North Carolina each year.
